Chung Oh's Tae Kwon Do Guelph

Improve your Body and Mind

What is Tae Kwon Do ?

Tae Kwon Do is widely known as the martial art with emphasis on offense, as opposed to defense. A Tae Kwon Do student learns effective attacking with a greater use of their legs and feet than other martial arts. As well as your legs having more strength and longer reach, the student learns improved balance and control of their entire body while in motion. This enables the student to learn and become proficient in spinning, turning, jumping and flying kicks that utilize every muscle in their body to magnify the normal strength, power and focus of techniques. Proficient Tae Kwon Do martial artists are able to perform demonstrations of power, speed and agility that is rare among other martial arts. Tae Kwon Do teaches how one strike can subdue an opponent and end a confrontation.

Besides learning to attack effectively, TKD students continually learn to excel in other areas of their lives. They learn respect, humility, self-control and discipline. They are not allowed to display arrogance or unsportsmanlike behavior. The benefits of these carry over into everyday life.

We employ a traditional approach to teaching Tae Kwon Do. Our priority is to teach our students how to be mobile, and develop good technique and habits. For us, martial arts is not about being the best, it is about being better than you were yesterday. Anyone can benefit from our training, as it allows you to move your body and improve your mind and spirit.

Chung Oh’s School of Tae Kwon Do was founded in 1973 by Grand Master Chung Won Oh. He received his black belt in Korea under General Choi Hong Hi who is the original creator of Tae Kwon Do. When he migrated to Canada in 1973 with his two sons and wife, he started his own TKD school based out of Kitchener, Ontario. Sadly, Chung Oh passed away in 2015, but his son, Grand Master Inn Oh continues to operate the school out of Kitchener. Both Grand Master Chung Oh, and Grand Master Inn Oh have devoted their entire lives to the sport of Tae Kwon Do, and are highly respected in the world of Tae Kwon Do. Our school is an official member of the Canadian Tae Kwon Moo Do Federation and was one of the first TKD schools to ever operate in Canada.

The main school in Kitchener is where we grade for our belts in front of Grand Master Inn Oh. We also compete in tournaments at the main school throughout the year. We have multiple branch affiliates in Wellesley, Listowel, Cambridge and of course Guelph. Our Guelph school is run by Master Brad Speers, who has studied under both Grand Master Chung Oh and Grand Master Inn Oh since 1982. Currently, we are training out of St. George’s Church on Mondays and Wednesdays but additional training times are available through our main branch in Kitchener.
